The winners of the poll received recognition in the December issue of PDD, and will receive an award from the magazine at the 2010 IDA Expo in Las Vegas.

Expo 2009 Picks Clopay’s Canyon Ridge As Hottest Product
July 11, 2009Clopay Canyon Ridge Collection grabbed dealer’s attention as soon as doors were open at the Expo 2009 International Door and Association “IDA Show, which was held in Nashville, TN this spring. Dealers congregated around the Canyon Ridge Doors at the Clopay booth.
“Many thought the door was wood at first,” says Pat Lohse, vice president of residential marketing. “When dealers realized it was a composite material, they liked it even more”
The Canyon Ridge Collection features a polymer composite cladding with a high definition grain that has a resemblance to a real wood product.
The lightweight ½” cladding is attached to a insulated three layer steel door. The definition for three layer would be steel – insulation – steel composite.
“Dealers were very excited about the 17.2 R- value the doors offer” offer” added Mischel Schonberg, public relations manager, “ and the fact that it’s maintenance free.”
Unlike real wood products, the Canyon Ridge door’s surface is UV resistant and impervious to moisture, so it won’t rot, split, shrink, separate or crack.
Lohse says the Canyon Ridge Collection will be offered in a 2” polyurethane base and a 1-3/8” polystyrene base. The doors are set to be available late summer.

Clopay then e-mails them a link to forward to friends, family and neighbors encouraging them to visit the site and vote for their home. The “before and after” with the highest rating wins! (if more than one entry has the same rating then the winner is the highest rating and the most votes). The dealer who installed the winning door gets $100 debit card!
We currently have 6 entries to our competition. A picture definitely tells a story with the amazing transformations made to these homes with their new Clopay door(s). Each entry clearly displays where the door was purchased and who installed it. With over 100,000 unique visitors to the site every month this is a cost effective and easy way to advertise your dealership.
Door Imagination System
Since launching the on-line door imagination system in mid-February, 10,000 homes have been uploaded. 1,600 of those homes have been saved to the My Folder feature on the site (which enables users to share their images with friends, family or you, via e-mail). The remaining 8,400 have been printed by the consumer to either share with others or take directly to their local dealer showroom.

Online social media sites and services like Facebook and Twitter are where consumers go for content and communities. They do not typically congregate on manufacturer websites.

Clopay Doors Featured on Three National Home-Improvement TV Series

Clopay garage doors are featured in remodeling projects on three national television broadcast series this spring: DIY Network’s brand-new series “Garage Mahal,” ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and the long-running PBS staple, “Hometime” with Dean Johnson.
Two projects involved transforming the homeowners’ garage into a year-round living space, so energy efficiency and comfort were critical factors in the door selection process.
Based in Minneapolis, “Hometime” producers opted for Clopay’s 2-inch polyurethane insulated Gallery Collection door. Its durable steel construction and 17.2 R-value will keep the homeowner’s new art studio comfortable in both winter and summer.
On the new show “Garage Mahal,” host Brian Corsetti and his team of designers transform ghastly garages into homeowners’ very own “garage mahal.”
Whether it’s a Tuscany inspired wine cellar, a Las Vegas-style casino with a craps table that lowers from a ceiling or a drive-in movie theater with a workbench that transforms into stadium seating, each multi-function room doubles as a living space as well as a traditional garage.
Tennessee homeowners selected a Clopay Model 4050 to secure their new entertainment lounge-themed garage, which was completed with a flat screen TV, a copper topped bar and a dining area. Williams Door managed the installation. “Garage Mahal” airs Tuesdays at 9:30pm on the DIY Network.
Finally, Clopay donated an Avante Collection door designed with bronze anodized aluminum and frosted glass for an episode of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” featuring the Cerda family home in Las Vegas. It aired May 10 and the Clopay logo and product were highly visible during the episode.

Garage Door Safety Checklist

On all Clopay torsion spring doors, the spring is installed around the torsion shaft so that, if a spring should break, it cannot snap free and cause damage or injury.
Conventional garage door bottom brackets are under extreme tension and can cause serious injury if deliberately or accidentally loosened or removed by someone inexperienced in garage door installation or maintenance. Clopay brand garage residential steel doors feature our patented Safe-T-Bracket™ which, under normal circumstances, cannot be removed while the door is under tension, thus significantly reducing the risk of serious injury.
Are you able to loosen the bottom brackets of the garage door?
Have you checked the spring on your garage door?
Beware of old springs. Keep in mind that garage door springs are tightly wound and under high tension. Eventually, all springs will wear out and break, even high quality steel springs like those used by Clopay. A breaking spring that is not properly contained could lash out and strike property or people. Properly installed Clopay doors have containment cables on extension springs and the shaft on the torsion spring will contain the spring on these types of doors. If you have an older garage door, be certain your springs are inspected by a professional installer and replaced if needed. If your door has two springs, replace both, even if one is not broken. This will not only prevent any damage caused by the breaking of the second spring, but also keep your door working efficiently.
Are there any frayed or have worn strips hanging loose on the spring system?
If the cables that attach from the spring system to the bottom bracket on either side of your garage door have frayed or have worn strips hanging loose, your cables are in danger of breaking, which could cause serious injury or property damage. Have the cables inspected immediately by a trained professional who is aware of the potential dangers from spring tension.
Is it a safety concern if the springs are noisy?
Sometimes older springs become squeaky or make a chattering noise. The noise is caused by the spring coils rubbing against one another. This is not a safety concern and can be corrected with a spray-on lubricant.
To ensure safe installation, are the services of a professional installer required for standard torsion spring door installation?
Manual winding of a torsion spring during installation or adjustment is extremely difficult and potentially dangerous. Torsion spring garage doors should be installed only by trained professionals.
